So if I haven’t already convinced you to add on film to your wedding day, keep reading!!
3 Reasons Why You Should Add Film Photography to Your Wedding Day
While I love both digital and film, I get extra excited when my clients opt to do both. I mean come on, you get the best of both worlds. So why not? But, if you need some more convincing, here are 5 reasons why I think you should be adding film photography on your wedding day!
1. Nostalgic Romance
Something about film truly evokes a sense of nostalgia that elevates the romanticism of weddings. The soft, dreamy quality of film adds a touch of vintage charm to your wedding photos that is so unique and timeless. Because you are so much more limited on the number of photos that you can take with a film camera, each photo is that much more memorable and unique evoking a much more nostalgic feeling when you look back on them.
2. It Evokes Emotion
With film, every photo that I take has so much more intention because I can’t just keep clicking away. I want each photo that I take to tell a story about your wedding day and make you feel some type of way. As much as I love digital photography, film requires me to be much more creative with every shot I take, which I love.
3. Ethereal Colors and Vintage Aesthetic
Unlike digital photography, you can’t edit your film photos. But, that is the beauty of film. The photos end up having the most gorgeous vintage feel to them which I am obsessed with. Film photos tend to warm up your skin and add a green tint to the whole image with some graininess which creates the most romantic and timeless images. You can edit your digital photos a thousand different ways, but those film shots are going to stay exactly as they are making them so much more unique.
My Journey With Film Photography
My whole photography journey started with shooting film! I started going to a fine art summer camp in 2009, where I learned to shoot film and develop my own photos in the dark room. Learning the fundamentals of photography through shooting film, gave me a deep love and understanding for the technicalities of photography, and has really helped me understand light and composition.
I’ve been shooting film in my personal life for 10+ years and it has been so fun to see the film industry make a comeback. I’m usually not someone to fall into trends, but the film trend is one that I can get behind!!! There is just something so so special about the nostalgic feel of film. Knowing that I can capture photos using the same process as our ancestors did 100+ years ago is so incredibly special and the beauty of that is never lost on me.
I often say that my favorite part about being a photographer is being able to stop time and keep records of life’s precious moments. Photography is our greatest time capsule, and the magic of film only amplifies that feeling.
FAQs About Film Photography
How many photos do we get with film photography?
Most of my couples have me do digital photography and then add on film. With film photography, my clients typically get about 100 photos.
Should we do both digital and film photography?
I literally could not recommend it more. Both provide so much value and I promise it is totally worth it to choose to add film photography to your wedding photography package.
Is it hard for you to capture both digital and film photography?
Actually not really. I will take so many more digital photos than film so the film camera is taken out when I feel there is a special moment that would look incredible with that vintage feel and aesthetic. And then while we are doing the bride and groom portraits, I can easily switch between the two cameras.
